The book Difficulty of Freedom / Freedom of Difficulty is collaboration between artists and art study at the Academy of Umeå in Sweden and Iceland Academy under the direction of Erla S. Haraldsdóttir and Carin Ellberg. The purpose of the project was to get artists to work within a predetermined system with the aim to change their approach to the creative process. Process and outcomes is conveyed in a beautiful book that these formal rules are introduced all to use their own creativity.

Bókin Difficulty of Freedom/Freedom of Difficulty er afrakstur samstarfs listamanna og listnema við Listaháskólann í Umeå í Svíþjóð og Listaháskóla Íslands undir stjórn Erlu S. Haraldsdóttur og Carin Ellberg. Tilgangur verkefnisins var að fá listamenn til að vinna innan fyrirfram ákveðins kerfis með það að markmiði að breyta nálgun þeirra við sköpunarferlið. Ferlinu og afrakstri þess er miðlað í gullfallegri bók þar sem þessar formlegu reglur eru kynntar öllum til afnota í eigin sköpun.
