Jonatan Habib Engqvist: We are in your studio with quite many works, but a week from now it will probably be quite empty. So before we start to talk about method or colour in relation to what we have around us, I would like to ask you about their absence. Even if you often work from a photographic original, I sense that there often is a predefined strategy that is of superior importance to the image. This makes me wonder how you relate to the canvas before there is something to grapple to visually and viscerally. So basically, it could be stimulating to start by hearing what you have to say about the starting point: What’s your relationship to the white canvas? I am also asking because it becomes especially clear when we are in this space that you are occupied by solving problems. It is almost as if you are tricking yourself to paint. Do you find beginnings uncanny?
